The April 2, 2024 Spring Election ballot includes your vote for County Board as well as an advisory question asking:
“Should the Town of Barksdale dissociate from Bayfield County Zoning
and the Bayfield County Zoning Ordinance
and create its own zoning ordinance?”
The first time this question was asked, the vote was very close, something like 175 voting “no” and 174 voting “yes”.
The April 2 ballot will be the second time this question is asked and the result will be used by the Town Board to justify their decision; if the majority of voters say “yes” the Town Board will work toward opting-out of County zoning.
If the majority of votes are “no”, the issue will (hopefully) be put to rest.
I will vote “no” because I believe County zoning with its regional approach and professional staff is better at protecting my property rights and value. You can read more about my perspective here and here.
If the Town opts out of County zoning, the choices are no zoning at all, or the Town writing and administering zoning themselves–a huge responsibility, and legal risk, and potentially costly to the taxpayers.
It is critical that we have a big turn out for the April 2 election and that the Town of Barksdale residents vote “no” to stop this bad idea.
